The Sugar Land Regional Airport will be accepting applications for the 2022 Airport Academy between January 10 and January 31.
The Sugar Land Regional Airport Academy provides a comprehensive overview of aviation operations and the facility’s important role in the regional economy. Participants learn about the history of Sugar Land Regional Airport (SLRA), the role of the airport in the City’s organization, the scope of airport operations and the economic impact on the region and the benefits provided to Sugar Land.
SLRA is the foremost general reliever airport in the southwest Houston metro sector handling more than 7200 aircraft each month.
2022 Airport Academy Schedule
- March 24, 2022 – 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
- March 31, 2022 – 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
- April 7, 2022 – 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
- April 14, 2022 – 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Note: A light dinner will be provided at 6:00 pm, with presentations beginning at 6:30 pm.
For new applicants (non-registered volunteers)
- Go to volunteer.sugarlandtx.gov
- Click on the “Get Involved” link at the top and select the “New Volunteer” option that matches your age
- Fill out the new volunteer application and submit
- Upon registration, the “Citizens Airport Academy Application- new volunteer” option will be available from the “Get Involved” menu
- Fill out that application and submit
For existing Serve Sugar Land Volunteers
- Go to volunteer.sugarlandtx.gov and login
- Click on the “Get Involved” link at the top and select the “Citizens Airport Academy Application – existing volunteer” option
- Fill out the application and submit
Requirements:
- you must commit to attending the four-week program
- you must be at least 21-years-old
- you live within a 5 mile radius of the airport, have a Sugar Land address, in Sugar Land ETJ or a Realtor that specializes in the community or a current City of Sugar Land employee.
- you are not currently holding or running for elected office in any city, school district, state of federal election
- only 1 applicant per household
