Sugar Land continues to make substantial progress in Hurricane Beryl recovery

Despite a two day collection delay late last week due to weather impacts to debris disposal sites, Sugar Land contractors continue to achieve first pass milestones for vegetative debris collection. Contractors are slated to complete first pass of vegetative debris collection in all zones across Sugar Land by the middle of next week, ahead of the estimated 4 week schedule. More than half of the city’s vegetative debris has been collected and equates to over 100,000 cubic yards. 48% of the total amount collected was removed from 3 out of 14 zones alone.

To continue to reach and exceed milestones, residents are encouraged to combine smaller piles of vegetative debris into larger piles. Regardless of the debris pile size, it takes time to position the trucks safely and correctly, before the debris can be collected. Consolidation of your vegetative debris piles reduces the number of times it takes the contractor to perform this task. We ask that you continue to keep your storm debris pile free of vehicle obstructions and away from any street lights or poles, water meters, mailboxes or other infrastructure that could be damaged during collection and would keep the contractors from safely removing your storm debris.

Once all zones have been completed for first pass collection for vegetative debris, the start of second pass will be communicated, via TextMyGov. If you are not signed up to receive these notices, visit www.sugarlandtx.gov/textmygov to register. If you are not sure if your zone has been completed, visit www.sugarlandtx.gov/zones to view the map for your zone and collection status.

Contractors have begun collecting construction and demolition debris in zones 1, 12 and 14. Please have any storm-related debris items at the curb and ready for collection.

Street sweeping has resumed across Sugar Land this week. Textmygov messages will be sent to the zones the contractors are sweeping. Please help us by removing vehicles from the street in front of your home, so street sweepers can get to any remaining storm related remnants on the street.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation, as we continue the recovery process in the coming weeks.
