After the Storm: What You Need to Know

The storm might be over, but we know the questions are just beginning: Who do I call? What should I do now? Is this normal? That’s where we come in. We’re here to help you stay safe, informed, and supported as we all recover together.

If your home or property is ever impacted by a storm, this is the form that helps emergency management teams understand what happened. All you need to do is fill out the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) here: iSTAT Damage Assessment Form

This tool helps state and local officials assess the extent of storm damage—so they can better support communities during recovery.

Note: The iSTAT Damage Assessment Form is not a request for assistance, registration for disaster relief programs, or a substitute for notifying your insurance provider. Instead, it helps officials determine where to send disaster survey crews. The City of Sugar Land will continue sharing updates and recovery resources as they become available.

For power outages, contact CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143.
You can also check their Outage Tracker for real-time updates.

For flooding and debris, call 311 to report flooding or storm debris, and our team will route your request to the right department. Life-threatening emergencies, always call 911.

Even after the skies clear, there are still safety risks. Please keep the following in mind:

It might feel scary to see water filling up the street, but that’s actually part of how our system protects homes from flooding. The City’s street network is designed to hold large volumes of rainwater to keep water out of homes during large storm events.

The City maintains a real time map that shows anticipated street ponding: Integrated Stormwater Management Model (ISWMM) based on current rainfall occurring in the City. After the water recedes, our city staff will address any remaining dirt and debris as part of clean-up efforts.

We know waiting can be frustrating, It’s important to stay patient. Know that we’re here for you! The City will communicate clean-up and storm updates through our city website, social media pages (Facebook, X and Instagram) and our non-emergency notification tool, TextMyGov.
