Apply now for new incentive program that helps Sugar Landers update their homes

More than 70 percent of the single-family homes in Sugar Land were built before the year 2000. Over the past 23 years, the look and resale value of homes in our area have changed. Sugar Land has come up with a way to help residents get those long-standing exterior home renovations done with an incentive along the way.

Meet the Great Homes Program.

Great Homes is a new residential reinvestment initiative that empowers Sugar Land homeowners to invest in their community by preserving, protecting, and enhancing their neighborhoods.

They can do this two ways:

  1. Through the Great Homes Design Program, homeowners can get a creative, re-envisioned exterior home design at a fraction of market cost, thanks to an exclusive deal secured for Sugar Land residents who participate in the program. Under the Design program, a $500 rebate may be available for homeowners who substantially implement at least one qualifying exterior improvement on their home within six months of receiving a design through the program.
  2. With the Great Homes Update Program, Sugar Land homeowners can get a reimbursement incentive encouraging rehabilitation and refurbishments of the exteriors of their home. Through this program, homeowners may be eligible for a reimbursement incentive of up to $10,000 for a portion of their exterior home improvement costs.

Applications are now open as of February 15, 2023. Residents can apply to participate in the programs at www.sugarlandecodev.com/great-homes.

“Taking advantage of this amazing and unique incentive program will help you update your home and, at the same time, help the City revamp its housing market and neighborhoods,” Jonathan Soriano, Sugar Land’s community development program strategist, said. “This program makes it so much easier for you to tackle that home renovation project you’ve been putting off.”

Sugar Land is among one of the first in the city do something like this, Soriano said, and is paving the way for similar programs in the region.

“This is money that the city is providing you – that doesn’t happen a lot in cities,” Soriano said. “Neighborhood upkeep and beautification is a benefit to everyone, so I’m excited for people to join the program. Even small, aesthetic renovation can bring a lot of value to your home and be visually transformative.”

All single-family homeowners with properties within Sugar Land city limits are potentially eligible and encouraged to participate in the program.

“This is a prime opportunity to ensure that Sugar Land keeps pace with new housing options available in our region,” Soriano said. “It’s vital that residents get involved in the future of their own community.”
