Tips on how to schedule a bulky waste pickup

Here’s what you need to know to save yourself some time, Sugar Land! Our new, on-call bulky waste program provides residents with 12 on-call bulk service days per year as part of their service at no additional cost.

What does this mean? This means residents must contact Republic Services to schedule custom bulky waste service for their home! Here are the steps you need to take to ensure a smooth bulky waste pickup.

1. Residents must get in touch with Republic to request bulky waste pickup.

There are two ways to do this:

2. Give as much information as you can!

For example, you will be asked for a description of the bulky waste items you’d like to be picked up. The description of the bulky waste items helps Republic Services make an estimate of how much waste (i.e. volume) will be out at each home so the most efficient routes can be developed (based on estimated volumes). This also helps Republic Services determine if they need to add additional bulky waste trucks to a specific bulky waste collection day. The more information residents provide, the more efficient this process will be!

3. After you call to request pickup, WAIT until a Republic Services rep contacts you with confirmation of your scheduled service day.

Residents will be contacted within 24 hours of filling out the Bulky Waste request form to schedule a date. Republic Services will collect your bulky waste within 5 business days of your request being confirmed.

On your scheduled collection day, be sure to set your bulky items out by 7 a.m. but no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before. Residents may place up to five cubic yards of bulky waste out for collection, and the items should be set out at the curb at least four feet away from other objects. Be sure NOT to place your bulky waste items in your garbage cart. Items should be placed directly at the curb.

Remember: Residents receive one additional bulky waste pickup each after Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day, so those don’t count against your 12 bulky waste pickup days!
