Everbridge 101: How Sugar Land Stays Connected During Emergencies

Emergencies are unpredictable, but staying informed shouldn’t be. In Sugar Land, we want to make sure residents receive the right information at the right time, so that you can make important decisions for you and your family.

Everbridge is our emergency notification system that provides real-time updates during critical situations. It’s designed to make sure residents receive accurate information when it matters most. Integrated with the national Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), Everbridge delivers alerts through various channels, including calls, texts, emails, and even TV or radio broadcasts.

Here’s how it works:

  • Registration: Residents can register their contact information and communication preferences.
  • Notifications: Alerts are sent based on location and the type of information you choose to receive.
  • IPAWS Integration: National emergency alerts, such as severe weather warnings or evacuation orders, are shared seamlessly through Everbridge.

What Kind of Alerts Does Everbridge Provide?

Sugar Land residents can expect public safety updates, including evacuation orders, road closures, or hazardous materials incidents.

Why Are Alerts Like IPAWS Messages So Important?

IPAWS is a national system designed to share crucial safety information. Alerts sent through IPAWS often include clear, actionable instructions—whether it’s seeking shelter, evacuating an area, or preparing for an incoming storm. These alerts ensure residents are ready to act quickly during emergencies.

To ensure reliability, Sugar Land’s Public Safety Dispatch conducts routine tests of the Everbridge system and its IPAWS integration. These checks guarantee that messages are sent without delay, providing the community with the confidence that critical updates will reach them when needed.

Here is an example of how a notification will appear in your email:

 Phone Call Notifications

If you receive a phone call notification, it will come from the Sugar Land Public Safety Dispatch number. It is highly recommended that you save this number in your phone to identify it as a legitimate call and avoid mistaking it for a scam.

By familiarizing yourself with these examples, you can ensure that you recognize official notifications and take the necessary actions promptly.

While emergencies can happen at any moment, knowing there’s a dependable system in place for real-time updates can make them less overwhelming. Our emergency notification system helps ensure our community stays informed and prepared, offering multiple ways to access vital information.
