Peak Green Waste season is here! From January through May, we see a significant increase in the amount of yard waste placed at the curb. With spring in full swing, it’s important to keep a few things in mind to ensure a smooth and efficient collection process.
Warmer temperatures encourage lawns, trees, and shrubs to grow, leading to more grass clippings, pruning, and yard debris. Some trees also shed their leaves during this time, adding to the volume of green waste collected.
To manage the higher volume, Republic Services is adding operational days:
Wednesdays & Saturdays will be used to finish incomplete routes
No changes to your regular service day
If you see a Republic truck collecting outside your scheduled day, don’t worry! Regular collection will still occur.
Make sure you’re signed up on Nextdoor and following our official City of Sugar Land page, and also signed up to receive alerts via TextMyGov to receive the latest updates on your solid waste service
Here are a few ways to help keep green waste levels down and make the collection process easier:
Instead of bagging your grass clippings, leave them on your lawn as you mow. This helps fertilize your grass naturally and reduces waste collection.
Use a mulching mower to chop fallen leaves and small debris into tiny pieces. You can leave them on your lawn or use them as mulch in garden beds.
Trim smaller amounts at a time to reduce bulk waste. Cut larger branches into smaller, 4-foot sections and bundle them for easy collection.
Here are the Green Waste Collection Guidelines:
10 cubic yard maximum per pickup
Must be in clear bags or personal containers
Sticks & branches must be cut into 4-foot lengths and bundled
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping waste levels manageable during this busy season. By following these tips, we can ensure timely and efficient green waste collection for everyone!
